What Is 3D Builder?

3D Builder is a lightweight free 3D tool developed by Microsoft for Windows operating systems. You can view, create, and personalize 3D objects with 3D Builder: downloading many kinds of 3D files and editing them using a wide range of powerful yet easy-to-use tools; taking a photo and making it 3D; personalizing 3D objects by embossing your name on them or combining models and pieces to make something new; as well as building from scratch using simple customizable shapes.

The History of 3D Builder

In 2013, Microsoft 3D Builder was initially released for Windows 8.1. Also, it was preinstalled on some Windows 10 OSes. Although Windows 3D Builder is no longer embedded in computer systems, it is still Microsoft’s recommended 3D printing app.

Microsoft 3D Viewer can post a file to the Remix 3D website, open it in Paint 3D, or send it to the Print 3D app for 3D printing. When in Mixed Reality mode, the 3D Viewer can capture photos and videos of the scene that have your 3D model augmented into it.

In the latest Windows 11, 3D Viewer is no longer included. Yet, you can download it from Microsoft Store onto your Win11 PC.
