Windows Kernel – Fix Kernel Security Check Failure Error
You will learn something about Windows kernel and the solutions to the Kernel Security Check error after reading this post.
About Windows Kernel
Windows is one of the most flexible operating systems. The operating system currently supports x86, x64, ARM and ARM64 architectures.
Before intruding Windows kernel, let’s learn about kernel at first.
What is kernel? Kernel is a computer program that is the core of a computer’s operating system, with complete control over everything in the system.
When a computer is powered on, its kernel goes through some initialization function, such as checking memory. It takes responsibility for assigning and unassigning memory space which allows software to run.
There are two types of kernels:
- Micro kernel: only contains basic functionality.
- Monolithic kernel: contains many device drives.
What is Windows kernel? Windows kernel is the core of Windows operating system, and the core scales dynamically depending on the architecture and the processor that it is run on to exploit the full power of the hardware.
Windows kernel refers to Windows NT kernel and Window 9x kernel. Let’s see some information about the former one.
Windows NT Kernel
Windows NT kernel is a hybrid kernel containing a simple kernel, hardware abstraction layer, drivers, and a range of services.
It is a layered design that includes two main components, namely user mode and kernel mode.
User mode: The layer is made up of the “Environment subsystems”, which is between user mode applications and operating system kernel functions, and “Integral subsystem”. Programs and subsystems in this mode are limited in terms of to what system resources they have access.
Kernel Mode: The mode has full access to the hardware and system resources of the computer and runs code in a protected memory area. It controls access to scheduling, thread prioritization, memory management and the interaction with hardware.
Kernel Mode is preemptive and reentrant, and it aims to work with uniprocessor and symmetrical multiprocessor (SMP)-based computers.
It is responsible for the thread dispatching, multiprocessor synchronization, hardware exception handing, and the implementation of low-level machine dependent functions.
Solutions to Fix Kernel Security Check Failure Error in Windows 10/8/7
If you encounter the problem about Kernel Security Check Failure error after Windows update or installation, don’t worry.
The main reason for this issue is corrupt or missing system files or hardware drives. There are some solutions to help you solve the issue.
Solution 1: Run Memory Diagnostic Tool to fix the Kernel Security Check failure issue
Step 1: Run Windows Memory Diagnostics by pressing Windows and R on your keyboard simultaneously. Input and then mdsched.exe click OK.
Step 2: Click Restart now and check for problems (recommended) to check the status of memory card right now.
Step 3: Wait for the tool automatically run to check errors on Memory card in your PC.
If some errors are found, your memory card is working well with on problem. If errors are detected, change the current memory card with a new one a to get rid of this issue.
Solution 2: Scan and Fix System Hard Disk Error
Step 1: Click Start, File Explorer and This PC in order.
Step 2: Right-click the hard disk you want to scan and fix, and then select Properties.
Step 3: Select Tools and then click Check.
Step 4: Wait the Error Checking tool to automatically check and fix system hard disk error.
