Windows 10 Home Updates Can Be Paused for 35 Days in Version 1903
Sometimes, users may need to stop Windows 10 update temporarily, but Windows doesn’t offer them such an option. In the early time of this year, there was a 7-day pause option in the preview building, and now this option was extended to 35 days. It is quite possible that Windows 10 Home updates can be paused for 35 days in Windows 10 19H1.
Windows 10 19H1 Preview Building: Windows 10 Home Updates Can Be Paused for 35 Days
The next big update of Windows 10 is codenamed 19H1 which is going to be released in the next month. It is reportedly said that Windows 10 April 2019 Update (which is also known as version 1903) will provide users with Windows 10 Home license to pause quality updates for a limited period of time.
However, Windows 10 Home users are not allowed to stop Windows updates before the new version is released officially to the public unless they pick a time or “snoozing” them.
The Updates Pause Option Is Extended to 35 Days in the Preview Building
In January of this year, Microsoft has released some new preview builds of Windows 10 Home SKU. In the buildings, Insiders discover that there is an option which can be used to pause updates for up to 7 days.
But now, users can see that Microsoft is improving the updates pause function and now it is possible to pause Windows 10 updates on the Home SKU for up to 35 days.
Days ago, the user “Leopeva64-2” made a post on Reddit saying about the Windows 10 Home 35-day pause option on the latest preview building of Windows 10 19H1: “Temporarily pause updates from being installed on this device for up to 35 days. When you reach the pause limit, your device will need to get new updates before you can pause again.”
From his post, users can see that this poster clean-installed build 18356.1 on a computer that wasn’t installed in the Insider program automatically.
However, Insiders who don’t actually make a clean install while downloading this preview building seemingly won’t get this 35-day pause option. (Microsoft said that some machines accidentally opted out of the Windows Insider program after installing this building 18356.)
In addition, Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise users will continue to get better and more advanced Windows Update settings.
Why Microsoft Adds Pause Updates Option in Windows Home SKU
In Windows 10 October 2018 Update or even older versions, the computer with Windows 10 Home SKU will receive the updates as soon as possible when a new version is released. It is impossible to stop Windows updates on Windows 10 Home SKU, while this feature is existing in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise SKUs.
Microsoft has received many feedbacks which suggest adding the Windows Updates pause option in Windows Home SKU. And finally Microsoft addresses the feedback and Windows 10 Home updates can be paused for 35 days in the upcoming Windows 10 April 2019 Update (version 1903).
If the Windows 10 Home updates can be paused for 35 days option is added up into Windows 10 Home, it will be sure that some users will be interested in using it the same way that Windows 10 Pro users can do today: to give them a bit of a buffer while Microsoft irons out problems with new Windows 10 feature releases in the early days of their roll-out.
However, it is necessary to know that the Microsoft Company has not officially announces such plans to the public and this might be a possible A/B testing.
Perhaps, more detailed information will be released in the coming days. Users should just wait until 19H1 is released.
