The new Windows 10 Timeline records the activities you’ve performed in order and it is able to synchronize the activities across your computers and other devices (like Android phones). Actually, Windows Timeline is not a standalone feature (it is part of the Windows 10’s Task View). With this feature, you can recover from where you left off easily.
Windows 10 Timeline: a New Way to Resume Activities
The Windows 10 Timeline feature was firstly introduced in the Windows 10 April 2018 Update (also known as Redstone 4). As the name suggests, the Timeline feature helps to keep records of what you have performed on your computer in chronological order.
Main Functions of Windows Timeline
With the help of Timeline feature, you can go to see what you have been working on over the past days, weeks, and even months. Meanwhile, you are able to resume the work where you left off easily by clicking on it.
What you can actually recover from:
- The webpage you were reading in Microsoft Edge.
- The Word document you were working on.
- The multimedia files you use.
- The applications you were opening.
- …
To be specific, the Windows Timeline tracks the stuff you do on your devices and then organize them by adding them into a list within Task View. You can resume any activities from the local computer and remote computer & devices (Android or iOS phones), as long as they are connected to the current computer through the same Microsoft account.
Windows 10 Timeline Settings
In the Windows 10 April 2018 Update and a newer version, the Timeline feature is enabled by default. If you don’t need this new feature, you can disable it manually (the instructions will be given later). Firstly, I’d like to show users who are interested in the feature how to access it.
Navigate Timeline on Windows 10
There are mainly two different ways to access the Timeline experience in Windows 10.
- Open Windows 10 Timeline via taskbar: you should firstly find Task View icon in taskbar (which is generally on the right side of Cortana box). If you can’t see this icon, you should right click on the taskbar and choose Show Task View button.
- Open Windows 10 Timeline via shortcut: there’s an easier and more convenient way to access Timeline – turn to the Windows 10 Timeline keyboard shortcut, pressing Win + Tab simultaneously.
