The price of solid state drive used to be expensive, but now it's getting more and more affordable for ordinary people. Though it still takes several years for NVMe drives to become bulk storage, you can enjoy the good performance of it after buying Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD, whose price has come down a lot recently.

Sabrent is an American company famous for manufacturing and selling technology products (such as computer accessories and consumer electronics). Recently, it adds the fast Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD to the product line.

Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD Review

The new Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD adopts PCIe M.2 2280 form factor and PCIe Gen3 x 4 interfaces. Designed on the basis of Toshiba’s BiCS 3D TLC NAND flash memory, the new Sabrent SSD has all the advantages of flash disk technology.

Capacity & Speed

One of the biggest differences between ordinary SSDs and the NVMe SSDs is obviously the speed. The new Sabrent Rocket SSD provides four capacity options for you to choose from: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The speeds of each capacity model are fast.

  • 256GB model: the max sequential read speed is 3100 MB/s while the max sequential write speed is 1050 MB/s. The random IOPS read is 167K while the random IOPS write is 256K.
  • 512GB model: the max sequential read speed is 3400 MB/s while the max sequential write speed is 2000 MB/s. The random IOPS read is 357K while the random IOPS write is 456K.
  • 1TB model: the max sequential read speed is 3400 MB/s while the max sequential write speed is 3000 MB/s. The random IOPS read is 650K while the random IOPS write is 640K.
  • 2TB model: the max sequential read speed is 3400 MB/s while the max sequential write speed is 2700 MB/s. The random IOPS read is 490K while the random IOPS write is 510K.

The size of those four Sabrent Rocket SSDs is not all the same.

  • The height of the 256GB model and the 512GB model is 2.35mm while that of the 1TB and 2TB models is 3.7mm.
  • The width and length of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB models are respectively 22mm and 80mm.

Build & Design

There’s a big cooling plate covering most part of the drive. On the surface of cooling plate, the Sabrent logo is printed. Though this design is not so good-looking, it at least encases the bare chipboard so you won’t stare at it. The most important function of the cooling plate is to keep the Sabrent drive in the right temperature range. In this way, the drive won’t be damaged due to extremely high or low temperature.

Failure Rate

Typically, the SSDs have a general failure rate ranging from 1% to 3%. In other words, there will be one or more people who are going to suffer from SSD failure in every 100 people who have bought an SSD.

Yet, it is said that the failure rate of the Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe Internal SSD is below the average value. Certainly, it takes more time to test the real failure rate. But you don’t need to worry too much since the company provides a 5 years warranty with registration.

System Performance

In general, the performance benefits of NVMe PCIe drives can only be experienced when you are dealing with numerous amounts of data. The Sabrent SSD is a very suitable choice for streaming 4K or 8K media. Besides, it is a wonderful drive to record high resolution files smoothly.

Price

The Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD can be a zippy storage for your laptop or desktop. And now it’s good time to buy this NVMe M.2 SSD; the prices in four different capacities are pretty low on Amazon (they are on sale).
