Part 2: Get iPhone out of Recovery Mode

Just as it is mentioned in part 1, the most effective way to get your iPhone out of recovery mode is to restore it through DFU mode. How to enter DFU mode? See the following steps:

Step 1: Just keep your iPhone connected to the computer and open iTunes application.

Step 2: Enter DFU mode with these steps:

On an iPhone 6s/6s Plus and earlier device:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time for about 8seconds.

Then release the Sleep/Wake button but continue to press the Home button until iTunes pops out an interface says “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes”.

Release the Home button after that.

On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time for about 8 seconds.

Then release the Sleep/Wake button but continue to press the Volume button until a pop-out interface from iTunes application says “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes”.

Release the Volume Down button then.

On an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X:

Quickly press the Volume Up button.

Quickly press the Volume Down button.

Then, you need to hold down the Side button until the screen goes black. After that, please hold down both the Side button and Volume Down button at the same time.

5 seconds later, you need to release the Side button but continue to hold down the Volume Down button.

Nothing will be displayed on the iPhone screen when it is in the DFU mode. If you fail to enter DFU mode, please try these steps again.

Step 3: Your iPhone screen will be in black if it enters DFU mode successfully. Click OK  on the pop-out interface, and press on Restore iPhone on iTunes application interface. Then, iTunes will restore your iPhone to factory settings, download and install the latest iOS version to your iPhone. And you can use it as a new iPhone.

Part 3: Recover Data from iPhone in Recovery Mode

It is obvious that you are unable to recover data from the device directly once your iPhone is restored to factory settings. However, if there is available iTunes or iCloud backup, you can try to restore your iPhone data from the previous backup.

When iPhone data recovery is mentioned, your first thought probably is restoring the iPhone from an iTunes or iCloud backup which is suggested by Apple official site. However, this method just restores all iTunes or iCloud backup data to your device without selection.

For you who want to retrieve some certain types of data, this method is not so ideal. In view of this, pieces of special iOS data recovery software emerge to satisfy these requirements.

To recover your iPhone data in a safe and reliable way, we suggest you to use a piece of professional iPhone data recovery software. MiniTool Mobile Recovery for iOS is a good choice.

This software is designed to recover all your lost data from all models of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The recoverable data are various, including photos, videos, messages, contacts, and more.

To help you verify whether this software can work for you successfully, you can apply its Free Edition to have a try, and this freeware allows you to recover some certain types of iPhone data. In addition, there are both Windows version and Mac version for different OS users to download.

When and how to use these two recovery modules? You can find the answers in the rest content of this part.

Solution 1: Retrieve iPhone Data from iTunes Backup File

The truth is that iTunes backup file can’t be opened and used directly. But, with MiniTool Mobile Recovery for iOS, those backup files can be recovered to your computer and you can immediately view and use them.

This solution refers to Recover from iTunes Backup File module. And because iTunes backup is the most comprehensive backup file, I think you should give priority to this recovery module on condition that there are both available iTunes and iCloud backups at the same time.

To make this module run successfully, you have to guarantee that the iTunes backup file you are going to use is stored on your computer. A copied one is also available.

Step 1: Click on the corresponding recovery module on the main interface, and then you will discover that the iTunes backup files will be shown here with their Name, Latest Backup Date and Serial Number which enable you to distinguish each item.

Select the one you want to recover, and then press Scan to continue.

choose Recover from iTunes Backup File

Tip: In general, this software is able to automatically detect and display the iTunes backup files which are saved on the iTunes default storage path.

Thus, if you copy the target iTunes backup file to your computer and save it to another path rather than this default location, this software will not show you this iTunes backup file voluntarily.

Then, you should press on the lower side blue button Select and pick it out from your computer to add it on the interface manually.

Step 2: Here, you will see the scanning results interface. The data types are listed on the left bar, and you are able to view them by type.

For instance, if you want to recover some iPhone photos, you should click on Photos from the left list and all the scanned photos will be displayed on the interface.

Since the freeware enables you to recover two pieces of photos, you can choose two items, and then click on Recover button.

Notice!

If you make an iCloud backup when your device is running iOS 9 or the later version, this software will be unable to detect these backup file because of the limitation of iCloud.

Once you are sure this software can get the target iCloud backup file, you can do as the following steps tell you to do.
